Kara felt numb. She knew that she had made one of the biggest mistakes of her life. She sat around the back of the nightclub with tears in her eyes as she had the dawning realisation that she had lost her best friend through her own stupidity. If she could turn the clock back by half an hour then she would.
"Why was I so stupid?" she thought to herself as she weighed up her brief fling with Mark against the years of fun and friendship with Vicky.
Mark was back on the dance floor seeking his next "adventure". Kara knew that it wasn't approprite to read the diary, but thought that nothing she could do or say would get Vicky back, so she figured she had "nothing to lose" and curiosity got the better of her. Kara began to wade through the entries.
"Wow, I didn't realise Vicky had a date with Tim Willis from work once. She was always saying how gormless he was"....
Kara continued to read... then her heart sank at the words presented on the page before her eyes. Vicky had written a paragragh about Kara's ex boyfriend from last year, David. Vicky had written about how much she was attracted to him - yet Vicky had told Kara at the time she didn't find him attractive whatsoever. In fact, she had given the impression she thought Kara could *do better* at the time.
Then, Kara felt a lump in her throat as she went on to read how Vicky and David had had a relationship whilst Kara was on holiday with her parents in Tenerife. Kara was horrified. Vicky had lied to her and had slept with David whilst she was still seeing him!! Kara knew at this point that Vicky had no right to get angry at her for kissing Mark. Kara was horrified at the new knowledge she had gained through reading Vicky's diary. After all, she began to get upset about her relationship with David at the time as as far as she was aware, he had remained faithful.
Kara left the nightclub hurt and angry. What was due to be a fun night out turned out to be an evening of complexities. She found Vicky waiting at the bus stop and handed her the diary.
"You dropped this," she told Vicky. Vicky calmly took the diary from Kara without a word, and Kara walked off down the road without looking back. A chapter of life was to terminate right here.
