Kara gazed adoringly into Steve's eyes. "Steve, I'd love to come over to yours - but I'd like to get to know you better first. How about we go for a drink sometime? Can I take your phone number and maybe we can arrange something?"
"Yeah, sounds good," he replied. Kara excitedly typed Steve's numbers into her phone as he read them to her.
"Don't use the landline, though as my Mum goes mad. She doesn't like me receiving calls, and I'm usually out, anyway with the lads", stated Steve.
"Okay, no problem", replied Kara who felt a strong wave of attraction to Steve. They said their goodbyes, and even though she had not long said goodnight to Vicky, she felt that she had to go over there to tell her all about the encounter.
"He's got the most amazing brown eyes, Vicky .. you just have to see them to believe me," Kara drooled.
Vicky seemed deep in thought.
"Kara, don't you think it's a bit odd that he told you not to contact him on the landline? Are you sure he's not using his Mum as an excuse and he's married or something?"
"No, you can tell he's genuine. I'll prove it and call him on the landline now". Kara dialled the number and got an answerphone message saying that "Steve & Sandra" were out, giving their mobile numbers to contact them on. Kara felt sick to the stomach. She wanted to believe Sandra was his mum but she found herself dialling the mobile number for Sandra.
Her fears were confirmed, Sandra was his wife.
"Oh boy, it's just a good job you didn't go out with him or anything," Vicky told Kara as she offered her a comforting hug. Kara had told Sandra that she had got a wrong number and they got chatting. Kara found she got on well with Sandra over the phone and they arranged to go out for a drink. Kara was pleased to have made a new friend through such a bizarre turn of events.
